Critic Reviews for Corpse Party - 3DS Edition
From beginning to end I was completely entranced by these kids' quest to escape the horrors of Heavenly Host. Corpse Party has a timeless story built around solid characters and a genuinely creepy setting that is able to buoy its sometimes outdated gameplay.
If you’re a fan of games that mix visual novel narrative with light gameplay elements like Zero Escape or Ace Attorney, and you’re itching for something like that that falls into the horror genre, you absolutely need to try out Corpse Party.
Corpse Party on Nintendo 3DS will scare you like nothing else can and it is is the near best version of the game on any platform.
All told, we loved Corpse Party. Its narrative focus naturally means that this isn't a game for everyone, but it's nice to experience something a little different like this. Still, Corpse Party does show its age in some parts (as it's an expansion of a PSP original); the irritating instances that torch long sections of progress are unwelcome and a bit too frequent, bogging down an otherwise effective plot. Yet despite this we still give this game a strong recommendation; it should be tempting to anybody who's interested in reading a great horror story in a more hands-on, interactive fashion. It doesn't get much better than Corpse Party in that respect - this is a well-crafted, creepy tale you won't want to miss.
Happy Halloween! What’s a better way to spend the most frightful day of the year than watching Japanese children get murdered in Corpse Party?
Corpse Party is finally available for Nintendo fans, and it's not the most optimal experience, but the game is still horrifying nearly five years later.
With significant improvements over the PSP version, the 3DS port of Corpse Party proves to be the definitive version to play, and for those in the mood for a horror game before Spooktober comes to an end, this nightmarish trip to Heavenly Host Elementary School just might be what you’re looking for.
Corpse Party is full of details that will either delight or appall the players, depending on their tastes but it will certainly not go unnoticed with its high quality audiovisual environment and capacity to plunge the players in its universe. While it pushes too far its conditions to reach the game's best ending and can become predictable at certain moments, Corpse Party is a welcome and necessary addition to the 3DS catalogue as far as horror games are concerned.
