Carefully mixing the most successful features of Monster Hunter: World, the "classic" structure of the old episodes, as well as a tasty roundup of novelties and sensational improvements to the quality of life, such as canyne and thread insects, tsujimoto's team managed to synthesize an almost perfect playful formula.

There are several reasons that lead us to consider Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade the definitive role of the already superlative action RPG that last year saw the reborn capital of Mako Energy. If the new lighting system devised by Square Enix and the properly redesigned textures have solved the vast majority of the problems that plagued the solid PS4 version, the almost zero loading times and the 60 fps guaranteed by performance mode represent a valid incentive to return once again to the streets of Midgar and be bewitched by its beauty. As for episode intermission, the DLC has effectively reintroduced the adorable Yuffie, cementing its role within the seventh final fantasy, but in our opinion the paid content presents a rather exosive entrance ticket and far from proportionate to the low longevity.

Every time Yuji Horii, Akira Toriyama, and Koichi Sugiyama reunite to churn out a video game, the whole world trembles and distorts itself in order to bow before their new creature. In this sense, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of a Lost Era is no exception to the rule, offering the player a very classic but always original plot. Even if the user had in fact the unpleasant feeling of being in front of something already seen or taken for granted, the narrative canvas of the product would be able to successfully erase any suspicion, proposing unpredictable events and capable of making even the most experienced JRPG experts pale.

Mammoth even more than the phenomenal second episode of the trilogy, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is one of the best JRPGs of recent years. The Monolith Soft team has managed to surprise us once again, creating a mature, moving and unfortunately current story, as well as embellished with a cast of exquisitely characterized and irresistible characters. If as far as the exploratory component is concerned, we knew that the studio would draw on the well-established formula of the franchise, proposing an immense open world capable of trapping the player for hundreds of hours, it is instead the combat system that has left us speechless.

Regardless of the hardware, Dragon Quest XI continues to be the absolute masterpiece that last year won a place among the best JRPGs of the current generation. The Definitive Edition was able to enrich an almost perfect experience, streamlining and smoothing edges and potentially tedious passages not suitable for non-lovers of the niche genre

Boasting the contents of the original package, the DLCs that can be purchased on old-gen platforms and a series of new delicacies, among which Vergil stands out and support for the new generation machines, the Special Edition is confirmed as the definitive edition to enjoy in all its splendor and without any kind of compromise of one of the most amazing and adrenaline-pumping hack 'n' slash of recent years.

Tales of Arise is to date the highest peak ever reached by the Bandai Namco franchise, which despite the ability to tell touching stories had never managed to shine even on a technical and graphic level. The transition to the Unreal Engine 4 and the adoption of the Atmospheric Shader have instead allowed the Japanese company to overcome its historical limits and create a delicious cel-shading, which without renouncing its identity marks a strong and evident detachment from the past.

The Nintendo Switch version of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim has very little to envy to the PS4 edition. On the small screen of the hybrid the drops in frame rates are a little more frequent and the colors are less bright than we remembered, but these are absolutely negligible minutiae and counterbalanced by the possibility of enjoying even in portability the most ambitious title so far made by the Vanillaware team.

Although the development of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim has encountered great difficulties, forcing the studio to postpone the PlayStation 4 version and cancel the PS Vita version, the Vanillaware team has still returned to the scene with an incomparable and intriguing title, which once again aims to shake up the terms of comparison of the two-dimensional video game, already largely redefined by their past works.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE has proved to be a surprising game. The gameplay is definitetly the most interesting part of it, because it's frantic and really fun. We particularly recommend it to all of JRPG players in general, especially to fans of Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series.

The Gust Corporation team managed to surprise us again, completing the phenomenal process of evolution that their IP had undergone since the first Atelier Ryza. Despite having inherited most of the mechanics from the second episode, the last fundamental piece of the trilogy has the merit of having speeded up and streamlined every single aspect of production, giving the player a decidedly more engaging rhythm.

Final Fantasy XVI is an excellent continuation point for the Square Enix saga, which, after several missteps, seems to have found the right balance between the tradition of the franchise and a new unabashedly more mature ethic.

While not matching the epic nature of Trails of Cold Steel IV, which for its part had the advantage of being the final chapter of a painful and well-oiled tetralogy, The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak is configured as one of Nihon Falcom's best recent productions.
