9.5 / 10.0 - Street Fighter 6
May 30, 2023

Capcom once again sets a new standard for 2D fighting games. In addition to the advanced combat system and the excellent package of single-player modes, made up of numerous elements that find their balance in sharing the same resource (the Drive indicator), SF6 counts on more than a vast group of tutorials and alternative control schemes for every need.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is bigger and, for the most part, better than ever. It gives to the audience one of the best experiences ever for single player in a fighting game, but makes a few bad choices for the Online Mode that steals from the players the freedom of choice.

Valiant Hearts: The Great War is both touching and educational, a rich experience that lives between two worlds: comics and videogames.

Goodbye Volcano High is a story of growth, friendship and love and how all these things, already great when taken individually, become giants when mixed together. Thanks to intelligent game mechanics, the story progresses forcefully by affirming the identity of its protagonists while allowing the player to make crucial choices, while the soundtrack (which ended up straight among my favorites on loop) is much more of an accompaniment: it's a co-protagonist, who embodies the anxieties, fears and dreams of this ramshackle gang of friends, dealing with nothing less than an apocalypse.

SoulCalibur VI is the actual proof that “legends will never die”, they just evolve into something else - in this case, something better.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is not so easy to pick for new players, but extremely rewarding once you get into it. Technically speaking, its style feels too old for the new generation console: the Nintendo side of the Capcom saga needs, more than ever, a new, fresh beginning.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is an excellent debut. Even if the story ends a bit in the background, the beauty of the world, the animations and the combat system make the adventure of Kena and his friends Rot's truly memorable.

8.5 / 10.0 - Mortal Kombat 1
Sep 26, 2023

Mortal Kombat 1 leans on a robust story (with solid foundations, but with a less than impeccable development) and a couple of other single player modes capable of entertaining for several hours – and even more, if NetherRealm Studios is able to properly exploit the seasonal system. The addition of kameo fighters and the focus on aerial combos leaves more room for the player's creativity compared to the previous chapter, with the assists of the secondary fighters breaking up and altering the rhythm of the matches in a positive way.

8.3 / 10.0 - The Messenger
Aug 28, 2018

The Messenger is a brilliant action platformer (...or is it a metroidvania?), full of irony and pretty difficult jumps. The time shift between the 8-bit past and the 16-bit "future" is what makes the game shine - even with its low replayability.

The First Samurai is the worthy conclusion of a long journey, which reunites (without too many surprises) the beginning with the end in this epic narrative of a cycle of events that seems destined to repeat itself forever. Team Ninja recycles the formula of the first Nioh to bring to the most insatiable players an end-game able to entertain them for some time, without shining for inventiveness, but aiming for a pleasant more of the same.
