10 / 10 - Persona 5
Apr 21, 2017

Persona 5 is good. It's very, very good. It's the sort of game that only comes around once every few years. It's a game that is so unique in every aspect that it'd be impossible to mistake a single moment of it for anything else. It's also a game about real life, despite the wacky hijinks you'll often find yourself in. It's about the moments you have with your friends, laughing around a hot pot as you make jokes only those there would understand. It's within those moments that Persona 5 enters a league of its own, untouched by its contemporaries in every respect.

10 / 10 - Doom
May 17, 2016

…the verticality of DOOM's level design and the sheer audaciousness of the constant balls-to-the-wall action quash any notion of repetitiveness or mundanity that could usually be associated with such a simple game structure

By adding a truly surprising and impeccably designed single-player campaign that is consistently fun to play, as a package Titanfall 2 is the most pure, minute-to-minute fun I’ve had with any game this year.

Shu is the ultimate example of how a game should take its desired platform and then shape it into the most perfect game that platform has seen.

10 / 10 - Nioh
Feb 17, 2017

In no uncertain terms, Nioh is something special. It’s one of those rare games that surpasses expectations, taking the best elements from a variety of genre-defining titles whilst sprinkling in a handful of its own ideas.

What Remains of Edith Finch is a story like no other; both very grounded in reality, yet at times other-worldly beyond imagination. It's touching and thought-provoking; daring to explore dark subject matters rarely delved into by video games. It may only take a few short hours to complete, but every moment is so packed with significance that it hardly matters.

10 / 10 - Pinstripe
Jul 21, 2017

I've spent hundreds of hours playing video games before now and, at the conclusion, felt good for having completed it… but it's those shorter games, games like Pinstripe, that stick out in my mind as having formed a real connection and left a lasting impression.

2017 has been a great year for games, but for me, The Evil Within 2 has been one of the most pleasant surprises. It's a fine example of how a sequel should be done; taking what worked and made the original such a memorable experience while building upon it and stripping out the fat.
