Jed Whitaker's Reviews
Balan Wonderworld is just plain bad. Apart from its terrible costume system, it does nothing new and just poorly copies things that other 3D platformers have already done better.
The Jackbox Party Pack 6 brings with it four new games and the sequel to Trivia Murder Party. It's more polished than the previous releases on launch, but none of the new games are particularly great.
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is essentially a spiritual successor to Donkey Kong Country that ends with a difficult Super Mario Maker-like dungeon. It friggin' rocks.
Contra: Rogue Corps is a game that is so bad, I can't recommend anyone buy it for any price
Gears of War 5 isn't a bad game, it's just the worst game in the series (I quite liked Judgement). It promised to bring new ideas to the series, and it does, but to the detriment of the game as a whole with how poorly designed they all are. The open-world levels are empty and boring, the story is lackluster after a great first act, and the new Escape mode is a fleeting distraction at best. Gears of War needs changes, but not like this.
The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan pales in comparison to Until Dawn in practically every way and only surpasses it in its amount of jankiness.
Remnant: From the Ashes is a surprisingly good combination of Gears of War-like third-person shooting with Souls-like difficulty.
Wolfenstein: Youngblood feels less like the story-driven co-op shooter that it should have been, and more like a product made to cash in on the legendary IP.
Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot is a short shallow experience that doesn't do anything new and isn't required playing for fans of the series.
Gato Roboto is a simple, cute, short but enjoyable Metroidvania with fun mobility and satisfying gunplay.
Team Sonic Racing refines and advances the genre in creative ways that make it a must play for both kart racing and Sonic fans alike, which is easy to do thanks to its budget price.
Rage 2 takes Doom-like gunplay and puts in just another dull open world game that doesn't do anything particularly memorable.
Generation Zero is a beautiful, broken, and boring jog through 1980s Sweden with a side of stealth and robots.
ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove just feels like more of the original game sprinkled with some modern-day trimmings (rogue-lite progression, for example) that feel like an afterthought.
If you liked the original Crackdown and want basically more of that, then you've found your game. If you want a modern first party AAA game, look elsewhere
Dragon Marked for Death is a hot new Switch exclusive that combines Mega Man X, Castlevania, and the difficulty of Monster Hunter into one fun little game.
With NEW Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, the Wii U's great launch title is back, now with Toadette cosplaying as Peach, and it's pretty good.
The whole of Diablo III comes to Nintendo's hybrid console six years after release, and while it might not be the prettiest, it is the portable-est.
While the The JackBox Party Pack 5 is hard to recommend at full price due to mediocrity, if you liked past entries it could be worth buying while on sale.
Crayola Scoot is one part Splatoon and one part classic Tony Hawk Pro Skater, but lacks online play and longevity if playing solo.
