No Man's Sky has been in our hands for nearly a decade, but the newest update is "completely refreshing the universe" in an attempt to reinvigorate the community by overhauling the graphics and adding tons of variety to the myriad worlds you can chart across the stars. It's working incredibly well so far.

Worlds Part 1 is so popular that it caused the highest player count in five years on Steam over the weekend, but it's not just PC players flocking back to this space exploration sandbox. As reported by True Trophies, the game has seen a 493 percent boost in players on PS5.

Prior to the update, it was the 194th most-played PS5 game, but now it's the 40th.

True Trophies uses a gameplay data sample of 3.1 million active PSN accounts to track the weekly player count of each PS4 and PS5 game—it's best used for general trends rather than specific numbers. It found last week via this sample that No Man's Sky surpassed Diablo 4, Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail, Honkai Star Rail, Mortal Kombat 1, and Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion which just arrived on PS Plus Extra.
