Critic Reviews for Picross 3D Round 2
Breaking down a large cube into a recognizable object using your puzzle-solving smarts is hugely rewarding
Even with those two bits absent from this entry, it's tough to knock Picross 3D Round 2 without getting nitpicky. This game doesn't really do anything wrong. Sure, it could be a bit more difficult, but the hours I spent with it were filled with fun and interesting puzzles in a stress-free setting that was just what I needed to take the edge off after a long day at work. This game is comfort food, and it's a dish I won't mind having every single day.
Picross 3D 2 is what a sequel should be, especially for puzzle games. I would've been happy with more puzzles, but it went further. It iterated and engaged my brain in new and clever ways that I hadn't even considered, it revised its progression ramp in a way that I found more satisfying, and it gave and continues to give me dozens of hours of enjoyment. If you have any interest in logic puzzles and brain-teasers, this is a can't-miss.
Picross 3D: Round 2 provides a relaxing puzzle experience, while making you feel like a genius whenever you just “get” it – as any good puzzle game should.
Picross 3D Round 2 is a gem of a game that's chock full of charm in its presentation. From its music to the reveals in puzzle solutions, the game is an audio and visual delight. As a puzzle game, it's wonderfully challenging with options to tone down the difficulty and tailor the experience. There may still be moments of frustration for some in the larger puzzles, but that's primarily the nature of the game and its requirement of patience. Overall, it's a beautifully crafted and pleasant experience - whether that involves solving plenty of puzzles over a long play period, or shorter sessions for enticing brain exercises.
The new chapter in the Picross series keeps presenting its challenging nonograms now with additional features that will certainly please its players. The quality of the puzzles, along with their fine-tuned difficulty curve that make them easy to learn but challenging to master will bring a welcome addition to the games collection of any player who enjoys a good stimulation of their mental skills in the form of image-unveiling puzzles.

Nintendo and HAL labs could easily have just made the same game with more puzzles, and nobody would have been upset by that. Instead they’ve upped the complexity, creating a damned near perfect sequel - and something genuinely unmissable for fans of logic puzzles.
Puzzle games definitely have a niche audience, but Nintendo and Jupiter have definitely found that audience on the 3DS. Its reputation as a platform for anyone and everyone has opened up the games to many more players. With Picross 3D: Round 2, there's nothing here to set the world on fire, but it's still an extremely solid, addictive, and enjoyable puzzle title that will keep players engaged for plenty of time and they will have lots of fun while doing so.
