Persona 5 Royal Reviews
Persona 5 Royal is the very definition of 'required reading' for JRPG fans. A deep and moving story, stylish presentation, amazing soundtrack, and decision-driven gameplay all combine to make for an unforgettable and exceptional experience that proves itself to be every bit deserving of the hype and praise it's already received. While those who have played this elsewhere may want to consider whether Switch's portability is enough of a selling point to justify paying full price to double dip, but it suits it perfectly. Persona 5 Royal remains a game that we absolutely recommend you pick up as soon as you can. This easily stands as one of the very best RPGs of the last decade and you'd be doing yourself a disservice to miss out.
Persona 5 Royal for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S and PS5 is the best way to play Atlus’ award-winning JRPG, with all of the previous DLC included. However, completing the game’s main story can take more than 100 hours, and it’s easy to miss a big chunk of the game without proper planning. For players who are willing to invest their time, though, Persona 5 Royal delivers an intriguing coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of modern Tokyo.
The long-awaited Persona 5 Royal is finally upon us, with tons of new content and gameplay overhauls to create a more robust experience.
Warning: This Persona 5 Royal review contains minor spoilers. So if you want to remain completely oblivious, the TL;DR version of this review is this: if you loved Persona 5, P5R seamlessly integrates the new characters and adds many awesome new features that I think you will love. But the number one reason I am most excited about playing Persona 5 Royal (and I'm betting this is the same for you, too) is to woo my new waifu, Kasumi. I hope this game steals your heart all over again, just like it has mine.
Persona 5 Royal makes the leap to PC with aplomb. There's a decent suite of options including rebindable controls and resolution scaling, but it's not quite perfect. Keyboard and mouse leave a small amount to be desired and the UI looks awful at resolutions below 1080. Still, if you're looking to play one of the most stylish and fun JRPGs around, PC is the perfect way to experience it.
Persona 5 Royal is the crown jewel of the series. It expands and improves upon everything that made the original a powerhouse title in the first place. The new activities and confidants staggeringly stand out, and the numerous minor improvements subtly propel the game into a masterful league of its own. Roll out a scarlet carpet and hail the king of JRPGs.
Persona 5 Royal is one of the finest JRPGS Atlus has ever produced, and thanks to the visual and performance boost of the Xbox Series X|S, it is better than ever. While I do have minor misgivings about the game's pacing during the opening act and its difficulty quirks, it is nonetheless a must-play for any JRPG fan on Xbox.
Atlus has undoubtedly created a definitive experience that takes the crown jewel JRPG of the generation. Persona 5 Royal improves on everything the vanilla version was lacking, with new content, gameplay adjustments, and quality of life improvements, whilst telling a compelling narrative with colorful characters. This PlayStation 5 native port may be off-putting to previous owners on PlayStation 4 with no upgrade paths, but the faster load times, silky smooth 60 frames per second, 4K native resolution, and all included DLC make this title a must-play for any JRPG fan.
Certainly it's difficult to make a strong argument for exactly whom should be buying Persona 5 Royal on PS5. If you've absolutely never played Persona 5 before than that person would be you, although you there is a compelling argument for just buying the PS4 version at a cheaper price anyway. For everyone else that has already sampled the delights of the game on PS4 and PS4 Pro, Persona 5 Royal not only doesn't offer enough to make the leap worthwhile but the lack of charitable continuity when it comes to save files and cross-gen upgrades makes it that much more challenging to provide a reason for its existence in the first place. This should have been a free PS5 patch upgrade, it's that simple.
The result remains indeed very beautiful and very fluid.

Persona 5 Royal is one of the greatest games of all time. With it on PC, we now have the definitive version of it ready to take our hearts all over again.
The real question here isn’t ‘is Persona 5 Royal’s switch version worth playing?’ It’s ‘is this a good place to pick up Persona 5 for the first time?’ The answer is a solid ‘yes.’ If you’ve never had a chance to play Persona 5 before, this is a great place to start.
With its melding of excellent gameplay systems, married to a truly unmatched sense of style and an iconic soundtrack, Persona 5 Royal is a true work of art — and that makes its publisher's greed all the more shameful.
Persona 5 Royal is simply a must-play for any JRPG fan, and couldn’t be a better place to start for those who have yet to delve into the genre. If you're somehow a fan of lengthy RPGs full of interlinking systems and haven't played yet, we implore you to join the Phantom Thieves -- they’re bound to steal your heart.
How to improve a very large RPG of his generation, which already sublimated the Persona experience three years ago? Persona 5 Royal achieves this brilliantly: more balanced, adjusted, refined to the extreme, there are so many novelties that for a little, we feel like we are playing another game.

Persona 5 Royal is the definitive version of the game, and unlike the recent Tokyo Mirage Session re-release on Switch, the new content adds a lot to the experience. It may be a big commitment to play through the whole game, but there is no better reason for old fans to re-visit this world or new fans to get their first taste.
Persona 5 Royal has toppled the precedent set with Persona 5, the extensive list of improvements give old players a new experience without recontextualising too many key features that originally made the game a modern classic in many fans' eyes.
Persona 5 Royal is the definitive version of the Phantom Thieves' rise to infamy, however, Atlus asks a huge commitment of time from the player to see what's new.
Persona 5 Royal is like a favorite dish prepared according to a new recipe. All the ingredients are recognizable and great, but a different level of roasting and unexpected spices allow you to discover it in a new way. The additional characters and chapter fit perfectly into the overall plot, which touches on interesting and adult themes. Even those who have finished the original will be able to find a lot of new things. Persona 5 deservedly holds the title of the best Japanese RPG of this generation, but it gets even better with Royal.

Persona 5 Royal improves upon what was already one of the greatest RPGs of this generation. The entirely new semester -- Royal's headline act -- is a fantastic addition, but really, it's the countless smaller improvements to gameplay and structure that sell this enhanced re-release, especially if you've already played through Persona 5. Our only criticism is aimed at the price tag -- full retail at launch -- but ultimately, it's difficult to deny the quality on offer here. The Phantom Thieves are back, and their tale of rebellion rings truer than ever.
