With the Void storyline getting a little long in the tooth, Growing Light finally wraps things up and prepares players for the upcoming Dawntrail.
Though the main story is slow to ramp up in intensity, the stage is set for a dramatic conclusion in patch 6.5 — and you’ll have plenty of side content to keep you busy in the meantime.
While the main story is a little anticlimactic for a middle patch, there’s still plenty to do in this latest Final Fantasy XIV update.
Despite its clichés, as well as some excesses and pacing problems, Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker has memorable scenes and dialogue and consolidates the Hydaelyn-Zodiark arc as one of the best Final Fantasy stories in a rich mythology of existential, cultural and political issues. The title is highly recommended for Final Fantasy fans and is also more accessible and enchanting than ever for newcomers to the series.

Starting a new story arc in an MMO is no easy feat, but Final Fantasy XIV does a fantastic job setting the stage for a new adventure in patch 6.1.
If you didn't like FFXIV before now, Endwalker will do nothing to change your mind. But if you're in, this emotional rollercoaster will be rolling towards a satisfying conclusion, that absolutely will not disappoint.
But what we really have is something that’s as close to perfect as can be. Endwalker is what Final Fantasy XIV fans deserved, both old and new, after a meteoric rise to MMO superstardom.
Endwalker is a thank you to the fans for their patience, passion and perseverance. Without question, it’s the defining moment of one of gaming’s greatest ever comeback stories, now somehow more popular than it’s ever been. Because of that, I truly hope we’ll see these faces again someday, taking on new stories and venturing to new places. Square Enix can be proud that this is the best Final Fantasy has been in many years and it sets the bar high for anything that follows.
Endwalker is the latest expansion to Final Fantasy XIV and it puts the fate of the entire world of the game in your hands.
Endwalker does exactly what it sets out to do. It ends a long-running story with style, and give us even more of the game that we love. Such a fantastic end to the storyline, and I am looking forward to what the future holds for Final Fantasy XIV.
If you’ve been on the fence about playing Final Fantasy XIV, know that Endwalker is well worth getting to eventually. Sure, you have to play several years’ worth of content, but just know that at the end of that long journey is a finale that will leave you satisfied and ready for more. Yoshida has stated that he’s nowhere near done with XIV yet, so don’t expect Endwalker to be any indication of the XIV train slowing down anytime soon. Consider it an invitation to experience one of gaming’s finest rides.
While Endwalker fails to eclipse Shadowbringers in most areas, it succeeds in what is by far its most important mandate: properly ending this extremely long storyline in an incredibly satisfying way. It’s a solid tale from start to finish. The expansion adds beautiful new areas, well-constructed new jobs, and all in all, ticks off everything that you want a Final Fantasy XIV expansion to do with the level of polish that players have come to expect. So take a deep breath Final Fantasy XIV fans, Endwalker is fantastic.
Final Fantasy XIV closes its first colossal story arc with an exceptional expansion. The sense of completeness once you reach the end credits is tangible, and the mere fact that we are talking about the expansion of an MMOPRG in these terms should give you an idea of the incredible work done by Naoki Yoshida and his team.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker concludes a near 10-year storyline and does so in a layered and symbolic way.
Despite any issues I had with the game, though, Endwalker was an experience I cherish, not only as a longtime Final Fantasy XIV player, but as someone who loves the power stories have to explore difficult subjects, but still affirm the beauty of humanity. Endwalker made me angry, sad, joyful and everything in between throughout its runtime. It’s been absolutely brilliant, and I am forever thankful for the chance to experience this story and this world.
Endwalker caps off a story over a decade in the making in spectacular fashion and cements it as one of the series' best entries.
