Riptide GP2 carries a lot of what I loved about classic arcade racing games, but also a lot of what I hate about mobile games.
Unless you're absolutely dying for a local multiplayer racer, Riptide GP 2's barebones approach to jet ski racing isn't worth the time, even with the low price of admission.
While Riptide GP 2 won't exactly make waves (sorry, bad pun) in the jet ski racing community, it's a welcome addition to the ID@Xbox library, especially for a meager $5 price tag. More could've been done, but chances are that Vector Unit will provide that to us in a more devoted Riptide sequel. Or, hey, maybe Hydro Thunder Hurricane 2. We'd take it. For now, though, Riptide is worth coasting through.

The time spent with Riptide GP2 is good, wholesome fun. The game is not incredibly impressive, but lends itself to heated competitions versus friends, or just a short bit of mindless play that requires very little of the player. Not a great choice for fans of the hardcore racing genre - it is, perhaps, a better choice for those out there with fond memories for Wave Race who would like to jump into some new aquatic races, perhaps even split-screen, for a new play on a nostalgic classic.
Riptide GP2 contains the makings of a truly great game. Generally fun and moreish, the game is undeniably repetitive and whether or not you make it to the end of the main mode is going to be solely based on your tolerance for such unvaried gameplay.
Riptide GP2 is a fantastic watercraft racer with simplistic controls and instantly satisfying gameplay.
