Critic Reviews for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - The Champions' Ballad
The Champions' Ballad isn't the extra dose of story for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that many fans were expecting, but it would be churlish to turn down another chunk of hours with one of gaming's greatest achievements. Even better, those hours are filled with new surprises, endgame-level challenges, and the weirdest post-game reward of recent years.
As inessential as most story DLC tends to be, but despite a few unwanted encores this is still an entertaining, if unnecessary, story expansion.
Revisiting Hyrule for new shrines and challenges highlight Breath of the Wild's high points, but also retreads some of the less-than-stellar boss and dungeon design
The Champions' Ballad is a satisfying send-off for one of the year's best games.
I had a great time taking on the new shrines and the obliteration silliness. Breath of the Wild is still a blast, so even if everything feels familiar, I couldn't help but take myriad detours and comb through areas I had already been before just to ensure that I didn't miss something. Keep your expectations in check and you'll enjoy the ride.
The Champions' Ballad is far from what we were expecting, especially story-wise, but any excuse is good to return to Breath of the Wild's Hyrule. The new shrines are great, and everything that happens at the end make up for any of the not-so-good parts.

The Champion's Ballad DLC is a splendid continuation of one of 2017's finest titles. Though it features minor disappointments, the overall experience is incredibly enjoyable.
The Champion's Ballad DLC is a nice addition to Breath of the Wild, but not an essential purchase. Great for people looking to return to Hyrule, but casual Zelda fans might want to wait for a sale.
