The Witcher Season 2 has found its Vesemir, and it's not Mark Hamill.
It has been announced that Killing Eve alum Kim Bodnia will play Vesemir in the second season of The Witcher. It was originally thought that Star Wars legend Mark Hamill was going to fill in the role. Similar to his role from the books that the Netflix show is based off of, Vesemir will be an older Witcher who is a father figure to Geralt of Rivia. Vesemir will be the oldest Witcher in the show, and will represent the golden age of Witchers. Vesemir had survived a slaughter that almost destroyed the Witchers, an event called The Massacre at Kaer Morhen.
For those who wish to learn more about Vesemir before the second season of The Witcher starts streaming, an anime film entitled The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf is in the works. The movie does not have a release date at the moment, though it is known that the movie is led by the show's creative team. This includes showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich and writer Beau DeMayo. It is unknown if Bodnia will voice Vesemir in the animated film.
Bodnia is a part of the many additions that will make their way into the second season of The Witcher. Also casted was Yasen Atour (Young Wallender) as Coen, Paul Bullion (Peaky Blinders) as Lambert, Thue Ersted Rasmussen (Fast and Furious 9) as Eskel, and Agnes Bjorn and Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones) as Vareena and Nivellen respectively. Aisha Fabienne (The Danish Girl) will play Lydia, and newcomer Mecia Simson will play Francesca.
The Witcher's second season does not have a definitive release date at the moment, though it is believed that the hit show will return to Netflix sometime in 2021. The show's first season was a massive hit, and was considered one of the best shows of 2019. The success of the show even boosted game sales of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
