Critic Reviews for Titan Attacks!

Titan Attacks is an enjoyable ode to Space Invaders, and a good way to waste some time on PS3, PS4, and Vita.

Almost as simple as a shooter can get, Puppygames' space blaster owes its success to our inability to be satisfied by a personal best. The premise and genre make more sense on the Vita than the PS4 (though options are always nice to have), but Titan Attacks is charmingly simple and hugely playable on any format.

Titan Attacks is a fan service to space-invading brethren of old, but strip away the charm and flattery and you are left with an antiquated, short-lived experience that facilitates just a tinge of classic fun.

Titan Attacks is a seriously addictive spin on a classic video game formula that'll keep you playing beyond your first run through its one hundred stages. From the upgrade system – which at first glance appears to be a minor inclusion, but quickly reveals hidden depths – to the combo counter that encourages you to play intelligently, every mechanic is part of a greater gameplay jigsaw that makes this homage worth invading the PlayStation Store for.

Titan Attack is based on a tribute to Space Invaders but includes several contemporary innovations. While the game is long and entertaining enough, the 3DS conversion needed more work and its price is too exaggerated for what the game provides.

Titan Attacks! is pure service to Space Invaders fans but feels lacking when put up against other reimagined retro titles such as Space Invaders Infinity. For everyone else though, if you strip away the minor gameplay tweaks and admittedly beautiful HD pixel visuals, you're left with a game which ultimately appears a little too antiquated once the nostalgia has worn away.

Titan Attacks! is a fantastic SHMUP that packs nostalgia in spades, yet feels fierce, fresh and fun in the execution. Gorgeous visuals, addictive upgrades and unpredictable enemies bring Space Invaders bang up to date in style.

Once those 100 levels have been conquered and the final Titan humbled, there's very little reason to fire the game up again other than the occasional mindless blast, which can be extended to infinity on account of the fact that the only thing left to spend all that amassed cash on is additional lives. It's also unfortunate that at this particular moment in time near enough every retro flavoured shooter that hits the market will inevitably get compared to Resogun, which has set the bar incredibly high.
