Critic Reviews for Total War: Warhammer 3 Thrones of Decay

Thrones of Decay is a strong addition to the DLC roster for Total War: Warhammer 3. New leaders, units, and faction mechanics make multiple races worth revisiting, but the Dwarfs end up feeling left behind compared to the forces of the Empire and Nurgle.

Creative Assembly continues to support the base game with quality free and paid content. If you’re a fan of Total War: Warhammer III, Thrones of Decay is a no-brainer purchase. Like previous DLCs, it gives players a trio of new Lords to learn, a large number of new units to play with, and another reason to sink hours and hours into the game.

Although flawed, Thrones of Decay is a desperately needed step in the right direction for Total War: Warhammer 3. The strong roster of Legendary Lords alongside new units that add flavor and fill gaps in their factions' rosters do the heavy lifting. They offer compelling reasons to revisit or try out their respective races, especially if you also factor in the reworks coming in update 5.0.

Thrones of Decay fulfills its role of bringing significant content to some of the most beloved factions of Total War: WARHAMMER III with flying colors. It doesn't matter if you're a fan of aggressive conquests or an enthusiast of the art of ranged combat: there's something here for virtually every play style in a title that, years after its debut, continues to impress with its epicness and quality.

In conclusion, it can only be said that Creative Assembly has successfully found its way back to its best moments here. For example, "Thrones of Decay" offers a lot of good innovations and adjustments both free and paid, and the three new factions can also be purchased individually if desired. We were particularly impressed by the attention to detail with which the new units, lords and heroes were worked out and how skilfully everything fits seamlessly into the already very, very extensive game. Whether for long-time fans or for newcomers, "Total War: Warhammer 3" is currently doing everything right.

Thrones of Decay is more varied than Shadows of Change due to its two campaigns that cover nations that didn't have them previously. But as usually, the DLC is mostly aimed at hardcore fans.

Although Malakai Makaisson steals the spotlight, Thrones of Decay is a much needed course correction in terms of content, replayability and depth, and a great expansion to the already wonderful Total War: Warhammer III.
