5 / 5.0 - Shovel Knight
Jul 7, 2014

With some of the tightest controls and game mechanics I have seen in years, Shovel Knight acquires an excellence that I seldom experience in games nowadays, making this game a class act well worth the $15 price tag whether you get it on Wii U, 3DS, or Steam. With a phenomenal soundtrack to accompany the thoroughly crafted lands and lovely 8-bit visuals, there's a lot to love and help you become enthralled in this retro-style world.

All in all, Bastion manages to maintain its shine. The game is still stunning in both its art direction and writing.

Aaru's Awakening is a phenomenal piece of art, and a solidly built game to boot. With numerous levels across the domains of each entity, and fierce challenges standing between players and the goal.

5 / 5.0 - Bloodborne
Mar 25, 2015

There is no proper way to stress how good Bloodborne actually is. The sum of its features produces a complex yet accessible gameplay experience that is amazing pretty much in every aspect.

After 10 wonderful hours with OlliOlli 2 and taking in everything the game has to offer, there's only one reason why you wouldn't buy the game on release; if you don't have a PlayStation 4 or Vita. While other games may offer a laborious grind to the end, OlliOlli 2: Welcome to Olliwood brings you a new kind of grinding that never gets old and keeps the sparks flying for hours to come.

Even with its lack of that graphical "wow" factor, Grim Fandango Remastered is able to become a classic yet again, this time for a whole new generation of gamers. Whether you're a returning fan, or someone new to the adventure genre, Grim Fandango is a must-play experience.

In one of the developer diaries released by Dontnod leading up to the release of Life is Strange, JMAX, co-founder of Dontnod, says, "I believe video games are the future of storytelling and I think this is just a pre-history of video games… We are just pioneers. This industry is just learning to walk on its feet…" If Life is Strange is any indication of the direction the storytelling of video games is heading, the evolution is one that should be highly admired.

5 / 5.0 - Far Cry 4

The game's cheesy tagline captures it perfectly: every second is a story. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Minecraft is probably one of the greatest games of this generation, possibly ever. It taps into the limitless human imagination to fuel the game beyond what most other games could only wish to accomplish.

5 / 5.0 - NBA 2K15
Oct 9, 2014

In all honesty, you'll have to look very hard for something to hate about NBA 2K15. The developers over at Visual Concepts know how to keep raising the bar and like Kevin Durant on the cover, use each offseason to come back better than the last year.

First Light is a DLC that has everything working for it: standalone status, great character, great story, and amazing gameplay. Expanding on a game that was made to feel fun first, it does everything right and then some. Building on what the series already established, and even fixing some of the less desirable issues, inFAMOUS First Light manages to feel familiar yet also like a new game. If this is any indication of what to expect from Sucker Punch, I am definitely looking forward to what comes out of this studio next

I'd easily recommend the title to anyone who enjoys classic platforming/action games from days gone by – the positive message and pure fun of it only add on to the value.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is difficult, fun, and addicting all at the same time. Despite its challenge and difficultly, the game is crafted and balanced enough where you're constantly learning and constantly inspired to work harder to conquer whatever stands in your path.

5 / 5.0 - Child of Light
May 2, 2014

It aims to plunge you into a charming and childlike fairytale world where you battle the darkness to save the light. With the subtle and soothing melodies of its outstanding soundtrack and the lovely visuals, I'd say this game has accomplished exactly that. Child of Light is a solid coming-of-age bedtime story for both children and adults alike. It's just simply enchanting, is what it is.

Of all the PVP arena games to have come out in the past year or so, Towerfall stood out as probably the cream of the crop, and Towerfall Ascension not only brings that experience to a wider audience, but actually manages to improve immensely on an already fantastic experience.  The first time I ever played Towerfall was when a friend shared it with me and others in his hotel room at a gaming convention.
