Critic Reviews for Valiant Hearts: Coming Home
What Valiant Hearts: Coming Home lacks in engaging gameplay, it more than makes up for in story and characterisation, and on these specific terms it is an unprecedented success. With a historical authenticity that would make many AAA games green with envy, the developer tells a brave and deeply moving tale with seeming ease. Valiant Hearts: Coming Home certainly doesn't pull its punches, and is all the better for it.
In the 10 years since the release of The Great War, the concept of Valiant Hearts: Coming Home hasn't improved in any way, but has even gotten worse due to its secondary nature and lack of fire.

It's really cool that Valiant Hearts: Coming Home exists. Not only because it is the sequel-completion of one of the most beautiful products ever created by Ubisoft, but also because it was chosen to use it as a forerunner towards a new method of distribution – of which it is still too early to understand consequences and developments, but which if applied to video games like him is an opportunity to bring to light the educational and thematic value, as well as a mere entertainment product, of the video game.

Valiant Hearts: Coming Home presents an emotional experience with a realistic and moving perspective of World War I, highlighting the challenges those who lived in this historical period faced. Despite the gameplay simplicity, which may not please all players, it's an experience worth checking out, especially for those who have already gone through the previous title.

Even after correcting some of its predecessor's foibles, Coming Home reveals that the series' core gameplay & storytelling contradictions remain deeply entrenched.
Despite the issues listed, it's worth [playing it]. It's not necessary to have played the previous title to understand and appreciate the story but it's really worth experimenting it to feel the gut punches and heart pain even deeper.
