Critic Reviews for Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom

What I mainly took away from Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom is that its creators had a lot of fun crafting it. There’s a lot of love poured into it, and it shows in all the small ways it goes the unnecessary extra mile. It’s surprisingly polished, even if there is the odd frustrating moment of fighting with the physics. It just feels like a complete, uncompromised package that succeeds in what it sets out to do.

Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom is platforming bliss. It takes the best parts of old-school collectathon games, and infuses them with a huge amount of off-the-walls charm and bright, bubbly art that's all topped off by incredible music and fluid, fun taxi-flinging action.

Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom is a truly bonkers collectathon with some wacky ideas and excellent level design. There is a lot to do, a lot of places to explore, tons of gears to collect, and dozens of references and pop culture nods to unearth. It is an excessive game in terms of its presentation; it can be too much at times. It’s loud, it’s abrasive, and it’s (adorably) juvenile. But that’s also what makes it so charming, in my opinion. It might be ridiculous at times, but it wears that crown of stupidity with gusto.

A truly fresh 3D platformer that is not afraid of going against the grain, be that with unconventional controls or referential humor, Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom is a game I will be thinking about a lot.

Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom reimagines platformer mechanics by eliminating the jump button and instead utilizes dynamic environments to challenge players. With a heavy emphasis on collectibles and engaging level design, the game offers both nostalgia and innovation, appealing to fans of classic arcade games. While the unique gameplay and generous checkpoints provide a fresh and friendly experience, the game's intense focus on collecting every item and some underdeveloped late-game content could detract from its appeal for more casual players.

With an unusual gameplay to master and a surreal, charismatic world, this is definitely one of the surprises of the year. If you're looking for an excellent platformer with a unique and nostalgic concept, it's very recommended!

Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom isn’t the first game that tries so hard to be wacky, nor would I begrudge developers who want a game that’s popular among streamers. But I can’t say that the end result is all that fun – not when there are all kinds of genuinely good modern 3D platformers out there that don’t rely nearly as much on silly gimmicks.
